What American accent do you have? Your Result: North Central "North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot. | |

So...how do I take the test???
Just click on the graphic and it will take you to a page that asks you questions about how you pronounce different words. Is there a Cal-i-for-ni-a accent? ;-)
Is there a Cal-i-for-ni-a accent? ;-)
Yes, there is in fact. Its pronounced: Cal-ee-for-nye-aaeeii... :)
I have a Midland accent...(??) So what happenbed to a California accent? hehe....this is fun...
"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
Actually, maybe you should take the test again, punky. The first time I took it, I got the Midland accent too. But when I screwed up the code for the graphic in the post, I had to redo the test to get to the code again. And although I swear I answered all the questions exactly the same way, the second time I got the North Central accent (which makes a lot more sense!).
I can NOT click on the graphic. I am so frustrated!!! Help me!!!!
and, I'm kinda ticked by hearing us PA'ans lumped in with the MIDLANDS, for Heaven's sake...who thought up that? We don't talk alike.....do we?? It's OK, I'd rather talk like someone who lives 1000 miles away, than a Philadelphian.
d
Sorry, I can't seem to fix the graphic, the link is there when I go in to edit but disappears when its posted.
At the bottom of the graphic there should be two links. The one at that very bottom links to the main page for all the quizzes but the one above it (just under the 'Northeast' bar on the graph, in the middle of page ) links to this quiz. Even though you can't see the linked text, the link is still there. Play around with your cursor and you should find it. If at first you don't succeed ...
Your Result: The West
Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.
Ahhh yes....dat's more like it. But what's this about being the "lowest common denominator of American speech?"
Me no like the way dat sounds....

hahaha glad he knew the difference between a boot and about. hee hee
