On Final Approach

An absolutely beatitful post by Lex's close friend, FbL, over at Argghhh! The Home of Two of Jonah's Military Guys.

I thought I was through the worst of it (and I was) until I read her account of the funeral and reception and then I was right back where I was a few weeks ago. We will miss you, my friend, but not only did you live your life large and with a certain je ne sais quoi (that's French), you said farewell in the same way.

Nope, no passing on while snoring in a comfy chair for you. You left us doing what you loved, living your passions right up to the end. One last lesson for us all.

And one final toast to you. For strength. And courage.

I was privileged to attend the service and the reception - FbL did a beautiful job describing it. What an incredible family!

Thank you so much, MMC, though I'm sorry to cause you more tears. My hope was otherwise, actually.

One note though. It's not accurate to call me a close friend. That would imply more intimacy than we shared. But he was a friend, and moreso a mentor--I learned and gained far more than I gave him.

Michelle you are so right; Fuzzie's post is just poetry. And like you, I thought maybe I was past the worst of it until last night. But thru the tears I am still laughing at Kat's comment about Lex, falling over doing yoga, laying there like a tipped cow. We now know that at least one of his children has inherited his sense of humor and witty repartee.

So, Kat has that going for her, which is nice. :-)

And I like what Fuzzie said above - that she learned and gained more from Lex that she ever gave him. I think most of us would say the same thing.
